ORANGE PARK ACRES
Pastoral and sprawling, this large ranch home was in need of an update. The heavy, Tuscan inspired details made the space feel small and crowded. The homeowners wanted a lively, open space to entertain their large extended family.
An extensive remodel for this equestrian ranch style home created a true Great Room from the cramped 90's styled family room. Adding the space from an unused outdoor patio allowed us to create a large, open space. Changing the colors from burgundy, green and gold to a lovely monochromatic palette of soothing creamy neutrals accented with black, helped to create the feeling of spaciousness and luxury. The chunky upholstery pieces were replaced with sleek, clean-lined pieces to help open up the space. An antique Chinese bed platform used as a coffee table provides a bit of whimsy.
The Breakfast Nook became a large informal Dining Room that is an extension of the new Great Room. A painted limestone effect was used on the existing brick fireplace, helping to set the tone for a lighter, more open and airy space. Using a bench for part of the seating helps to eliminate crowding and give a place for the grandkids to sit that can handle sticky hands. Custom designed dining chairs upholstered in heavy duty velvet add to the luxurious feeling of the room and can also be used in the adjacent Great Room for additional seating. The window seat cushions were updated in a serviceable ostrich print taupe vinyl enhanced by rich cut velvet brocade and metallic woven pillows, making it a perfect place to sit and enjoy the outdoors.
